A phone number that answers itself. Callers get a menu, a real answer, and a text back — you get a transcript, a summary and a notification.
It's for the plumber under a sink, the clinic with one receptionist, the shop with a queue at the till — anyone losing work to a phone nobody can reach in time.
01 — What it does
Six things, on every call, whether or not you pick up.
Answers on the first ring
No hold music, no voicemail. Your greeting plays immediately, in the words you wrote.
Asks why they're calling
A short keypad menu you define — opening hours, prices, booking, something else. Callers pick; nobody waits.
Gives the answer
Hours, prices, address, availability — whatever you've told it. The questions you answer twenty times a week, answered without you.
Texts them back
Booking link, address, price list — sent to their mobile while they're still thinking about it.
Takes a message when it can't help
Name, number, and what they actually wanted. Not a beep and a prayer.
Tells you what happened
An email with a plain-English summary, the full transcript, and the caller's number. Every call, in your dashboard.
02 — How it works
One call, start to finish.
Nothing here happens in a black box. This is the whole sequence, in order, with roughly how long each part takes.
- 01~10 minutes
You set it up once
Pick a new number in your area code, or point your existing line at it. Write your greeting. List the questions you get asked most and the answers you'd give. Add your booking link if you use one.
- 020 seconds waiting
A customer rings
The call is answered instantly and your greeting plays — your business name, your wording. The caller knows they've reached the right place before you've even picked up your tools.
- 03~5 seconds
They choose why they're calling
A short keypad menu, built from the reasons your customers actually ring: press 1 for opening hours, 2 for a quote, 3 to book. You decide the options and the order.
- 04~20 seconds
They get a real answer
For anything you've set up an answer to, they hear it straight away. If they've asked for something you'd normally send over — a booking link, your address, a price list — it arrives on their phone as a text before they hang up.
- 05~30 seconds
Anything else becomes a message
If the question is one only you can answer, it takes the caller's name, number, and what they need — then tells them when to expect you back. No dead-end voicemail.
- 06Within a minute
You find out, without listening back
You get an email: who called, what they wanted, in two or three lines. The full transcript sits underneath it if you want the detail, and every call lands in your dashboard call log.
Out of hours
Set your hours and the greeting changes itself — closed-hours callers get told when you're back before they're asked for a message.
While you're on another call
Forward on busy, and the second caller gets a proper answer instead of an engaged tone.
When you want it off
Stop forwarding and your line behaves exactly as it did before. Nothing about your existing phone changes permanently.

04 — Questions
The things people actually ask.
- What happens when someone asks something I never set up an answer for?
- It doesn't guess. It says it'll pass the question on, takes their name, number and what they were after, and sends it to you. You'll see the exact wording of what they asked in the transcript — which is usually how you find the next answer worth adding.
- Can I keep my current number?
- Two ways. The quick one: keep your number where it is and forward it to your Canduit number — takes minutes, and you can undo it just as fast. The permanent one: port the number over to us, which typically takes a few working days and is tracked in your dashboard. Forwarding first is the usual choice.
- Will callers realise it isn't a person?
- Most will work it out — it's a keypad menu and a clear recorded voice, not an impression of a receptionist. That's deliberate. It's honest, it's faster for the caller, and it avoids the uncanny middle ground where people feel tricked.
- Does it book appointments into my calendar?
- Not directly. It sends the caller your booking link — Calendly, Setmore, your own page, whatever you use — by text while they're on the call, and they book themselves. Direct calendar integration isn't there yet, and we'd rather say so than imply it.
- How many calls are included?
- 30 answered calls and 60 minutes a month, which covers a typical single-site trade or clinic. Transcripts and call history are unlimited and kept for as long as you're subscribed. If you're consistently near the limit we'll email you rather than quietly cutting you off mid-month.
- Are calls recorded, and do I have to tell people?
- Calls are transcribed and the transcripts are stored so you can read them back. Under UK rules you're responsible for what your greeting tells callers, so the setup includes a recording notice in the default greeting — keep it. If you edit the greeting, keep a notice in it. You can delete any transcript from your dashboard at any time.
- Can I still answer the phone myself?
- Yes — this is for the calls you can't get to. Keep answering the ones you can; forward to Canduit when you're on a job, after hours, or at the weekend, and turn it off whenever you want.
- How fast do changes take effect?
- Immediately. Change your greeting, hours, or an answer in the dashboard and the next call uses it. No support ticket, no waiting on us.
- What happens if I cancel?
- Billing stops at the end of the month you've paid for. Your call history stays available to export for 30 days after that, then it's deleted. If you ported a number in, you can port it back out — it's your number, not ours.
- Can it handle emergencies?
- No, and it must not be used for one. It cannot dial 999, cannot pass a call to the emergency services, and cannot reach a human on your behalf. Don't use it as the only number for anything urgent or safety-critical.
Set it up this afternoon. Stop losing calls tonight.
